Coming Up with Contemporary Water Garden Ideas

October 30, 2011

Article by Corrine K. Dolezal

Water gardens are beautiful and relaxing features to have in your yard, but where in the world do you start when trying to plan one? There are so many products available and pictures of lovely ideas used by others, but how can you make your water feature both unique and functional enough to meet your landscaping needs? Taking a drive around town may give you some ideas; however, since so many water gardens aren’t visible from the street, you may not get to see some of the beauties people have built. Therefore, it’s a good to turn to the Internet where you’ll find ideas galore.

If you have any sloping areas in your yard, that’s as great a place to start as any. Based on the principle that water will always run downhill, you can create lovely waterways that include water splashing over waterfalls and trickling over rocks. Having a fall of 1″ for every 10 feet is enough to support a stream. Add a variety of bright water plants, and a pump to recirulate the water back upstream when it reaches the bottom of the run, and you’ll have a beautiful start to any water garden. It never hurts to start small and then add to your watery ecosystem over time.

The House That Costs ?75 A Year To Heat.

October 30, 2011

Geoff and Kate Tunstall are retired teachers and wanted to build their own home.  Their idea was to build a bungalow in the grounds of their Yorkshire home but instead they have created a house which is the one of the first of its kind in the UK.  The couple have constructed a house which is build to the highest green standards and is a Passiv Haus.

They were committed to finding a more sustainable way of living and had visited home building shows for research.  They wanted a home which was cheap to run and used green technology and was low maintenance.  They paid a trip to Green Building Store which was a local supplier in their area and their plans dramatically altered.  When they told them what they wanted to build the supplier suggested a PassivHaus standard home as they were very efficient and very low on energy.  The couple had never heard of it because even though they are popular in Germany and Austria, they are new to the UK.  PassivHaus is a construction standard which uses the world’s best insulation technology to fit heavily insulated housing fabrics and preservation systems.  They also use super efficient windows and doors too and extremely effective central heating.

Classic Furniture For Home

October 29, 2011

Thanks to a recent proposal on furniture, there is a wider variety of styles to choose from to suit anyone’s tastes and preferences in classic furniture. The classic style must be the main style of furniture that reflects full furniture landscaping. Many can think of classic furniture as a landmark in the furniture making industry.

Timelessness, ability to adapt to any environment and functionality are among some of the reasons as to why classic furniture has imposed itself in furniture history. It also has the ability to provide the function of regular furniture but adds to it elegance and a mixture of lines and materials with the end result being that of harmony.

Studies for new designs in furniture show that there is a change in the classic furniture style as modernism is being incorporated into it aside from the functionality it provides.

One of the characteristics of classic furniture is that it is made of wood. Some examples of the wood used are like mahogany, cherry, oak and solid wood. Woods which are old and warm in nature are what make up the classic furniture. Thanks to the modern world we live in, you don’t have to live near a forest to be able to enjoy the classic furniture features because it can also be found in contemporary environments. Even though this furniture is found in contemporary environments, it still provides the same value and flavor all round.
