Wicker furniture first became popular in England and America during the 17th and 18th centuries. It is made from weaving interlaced slender branches around a frame and molding it into desired shapes such as tables, chairs, bed or sofas. Wicker is made from rattan, canes, reeds, sea grasses, willow branches, fiber rush (twisted paper), and synthetic materials. Rattan is one of the most common plant materials used in weaving wicker furniture. Fibers from the plant are durable and can yield to bending, making it ideal for several types of wicker products.

Wicker furniture is durable and strong, because of the way the materials are woven into the furniture. Despite being highly durable, it is also easy to maintain. Ultimately it can last for years without any real hard to perform maintenance or cleaning.

Leaving it in the direct sun for too long can damage and dry it out.

It is a good idea to keep wicker in the shade as much as possible, as too much direct sunlight and heat can cause it to warp or fade. Wind, rain and snow can also damage the wicker by breaking down the construction and warping the natural materials, so it is best to bring your furniture inside during the winter months.

France has long been a nation of art, culture, and style. For just as long, French style has been imitated and sought after. Today, France continues to be thought of as a leading force in fashion and the arts, but perhaps one area that France has influenced more than any other is residential furnishings. French furniture has been admired for centuries for its ornate carving, variety of finishes, and versatility.

When considering French furniture, one should recognize the term encompasses many different periods, emphases, and styles. French furniture can refer to the rich, elaborate styles that characterized the monarchial residences of Paris and the country retreat at the Palace of Versailles, but it also includes the more simple stylings of “French Country”, which came from the rural towns that still dot the French landscape and continue to influence home furnishings in countries throughout the world.

French furniture is a study in contrasts.

Timelessness, ability to adapt to any environment and functionality are among some of the reasons as to why classic furniture has imposed itself in furniture history. It also has the ability to provide the function of regular furniture but adds to it elegance and a mixture of lines and materials with the end result being that of harmony.

Studies for new designs in furniture show that there is a change in the classic furniture style as modernism is being incorporated into it aside from the functionality it provides.

One of the characteristics of classic furniture is that it is made of wood. Some examples of the wood used are like mahogany, cherry, oak and solid wood. Woods which are old and warm in nature are what make up the classic furniture. Thanks to the modern world we live in, you don’t have to live near a forest to be able to enjoy the classic furniture features because it can also be found in contemporary environments.
